Interior remodels from Rancho Santa Fe to La Jolla topped the residential awards by the San Diego chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers' 2002 Interior Design Excellence Awards. Topping the commercial awards were an ice cream shop in La Jolla and a tiny bar in the San Diego Sports Arena.

Tina Koch, Ken Rudzinski and Tony Adamo of San Diego's Design Perspectives were awarded first place in the Commercial Space Under 1,500 Square Feet category for their Mootime Creamery store in La Jolla, California.
